Hamilton Reconnects with the World

Hamilton is officially back on the international radar.

After more than a decade, Hamilton Airport has reopened as an international gateway, marking a major milestone for the Waikato region. With Jetstar now operating direct flights to and from Sydney and the Gold Coast, this isn’t just a win for travel convenience—it’s a boost for tourism, the local economy and short-term rentals (STRs) in Hamilton.

Jetstar’s move brings seven trans-Tasman flights a week, creating capacity for over 100,000 international passengers per year. That’s a projected $45 million boost to the local economy and up to 300 new tourism-related jobs.

For Hamilton’s STR market, this surge in foot traffic means one thing: more bookings, higher occupancy and stronger returns. Travellers no longer need to detour through Auckland. They can fly straight into the heart of the Mighty Waikato and straight into our homes, hotels and holiday lets.

This new international link doesn’t just make Hamilton more accessible; it makes it more investable. Whether you're hosting guests or considering entering the STR space, now is the time to take advantage of Hamilton’s rising profile and growing demand.

The world is coming to Hamilton. Make sure your property is ready.
